Dr. Robert Takamiya
Dr.
Robert Takamiya completed his bachelor’s and master’s degree in
electrical engineering at Columbia University before his medical
training. He was awarded his medical degree from New York University,
and then completed his radiation oncology residency at the University of
California, San Francisco.
During residency, Dr. Takamiya’s interest focused on intensity modulated
radiation therapy, a sophisticated computer-optimized external beam
treatment delivery system, and brachytherapy. He was selected to be the
American Brachytherapy Society fellow in 2003 where he was able to focus
further on the permanent radioactive seed prostate implant technique.
Due to his interest in brachytherapy, Dr. Takamiya joined the Seattle
Prostate Institute. He is a member of the teaching faculty for
the Seattle Prostate Institute Education program. In addition to the brachytherapy curriculum, he is also a speaker for the Image Guidance
Radiation Therapy course. Dr. Takamiya serves as the medical director
at the Swedish Cancer Institute at Stevens Hospital.
Dr. Takamiya is board
certified by the American Board of Radiology. His passion lies in
advancing the treatment of prostate cancer through radiotherapy. He has
published peer reviewed papers, and has a number of ongoing research
projects. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with
his wife and two children. |
