Dr. Robert Takamiya

Dr. Robert Takamiya completed his bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering at Columbia University before his medical training.  He was awarded his medical degree from New York University, and then completed his radiation oncology residency at the University of California, San Francisco.

During residency, Dr. Takamiya’s interest focused on intensity modulated radiation therapy, a sophisticated computer-optimized external beam treatment delivery system, and brachytherapy.  He was selected to be the American Brachytherapy Society fellow in 2003 where he was able to focus further on the permanent radioactive seed prostate implant technique.

Due to his interest in brachytherapy, Dr. Takamiya joined the Seattle Prostate Institute.  He is a member of the teaching faculty for the Seattle Prostate Institute Education program.  In addition to the brachytherapy curriculum, he is also a speaker for the Image Guidance Radiation Therapy course.  Dr. Takamiya serves as the medical director at the Swedish Cancer Institute at Stevens Hospital.

Dr. Takamiya is board certified by the American Board of Radiology.  His passion lies in advancing the treatment of prostate cancer through radiotherapy.  He has published peer reviewed papers, and has a number of ongoing research projects.  In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two children.
